The Working Mind
Healthcare Manager
You spend your days coordinating care for others. This course makes sure you're supported, too.
In a healthcare environment, the pressure never truly lets up. Whether you are managing an acute care floor, directing an outpatient clinic, or leading a large administrative department, you’re constantly balancing patient outcomes with system constraints. As a leader, you're the one who notices when the strain begins to show: a spike in sick leaves, a sudden drop in morale on a heavy shift, or a team member who is quietly withdrawing from their colleagues. But knowing how to step in, while everything else keeps moving, is its own kind of balancing act.
This program is built for the realities of modern healthcare systems, delivered through a trauma-informed lens that speaks directly to the demands of medical and clinical leadership.
$475 per person. Virtual. Canada-wide.

67%
of Canadian workers would not feel comfortable disclosing a mental health concern to their employer for fear of being seen as incompetent. In healthcare, where stigma runs deepest and managers are often clinicians who were never trained to lead, silence has direct consequences for staff and patients.

The Curriculum
-
This program was developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada to address the realities of healthcare leadership: chronic short-staffing, high turnover, and the systemic stress your team carries every shift. It's delivered by a facilitator who has managed teams herself, not just studied them. The videos, scenarios, and case studies throughout are drawn directly from healthcare settings, using the language and pressures your team already knows. Exceptional patient care depends on sustainable leadership, so this course protects your own resilience just as much as it builds your ability to support your care teams. What happens in the room reflects what you're already living day to day.
-
We'll start by setting a clear foundation for mental health and wellness specifically within a healthcare setting. This module looks closely at the structural impact of institutional stigma, exploring how hospital and clinic cultures determine whether a frontline worker feels safe to voice their struggles, or feels forced to carry them in silence. -
Next, we'll introduce the Mental Health Continuum Model, an objective framework that takes the guesswork out of team management. You'll learn how to track early behavioral indicators of distress across rotating shifts and departments, giving you the confidence to intervene and open a supportive dialogue long before a staff member reaches a breaking point.
-
After lunch, we'll shift our focus entirely to you. Healthcare leadership comes with heavy psychological demands, including moral distress and organizational fatigue. You'll analyze your own stress responses and learn evidence-informed strategies to manage the unique weight of the job, ensuring you can protect your own mental health while leading others.
-
We'll close the day by putting these frameworks into direct action. You'll practice the exact language and trauma-informed communication needed to support a struggling team member. We'll outline how to manage workplace accommodations, navigate critical incidents on the unit, and confidently determine when and how to bridge a staff member to professional care.

Atelier Mental Health Literacy + Facilitation delivers The Working Mind as parallel programmes - one designed specifically for managers and one for employees - because what each group needs from this training is genuinely different.
When both cohorts complete their respective streams, they return to the same workplace with a shared language and shared frameworks for mental health. That shared foundation is what builds psychological safety - and psychological safety is what changes workplace culture.
