The Working Mind
Foundational Employee
Every workplace is different, but the need is the same.
Foundational gives any team the shared language and tools to meet it. Not every organization fits neatly into a specific sector, but every team deserves the tools to understand their own mental health and the language to support each other well.
The gap between struggling and speaking up isn't a personal failure, it's a culture gap, and this course closes it. The scenarios and case studies here aren't built around one single industry; they're built around the human realities of the modern workplace itself. Whether you work in a creative studio, an office, a warehouse, retail, or a unique environment that doesn't have a standard name yet, this training speaks directly to your daily reality.

The Curriculum
-
The Working Mind is an evidence-based, five-hour program developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, designed to change how you and your colleagues handle stress and structural well-being together. It's delivered by a facilitator with over 20 years of experience as a mental health provider. It gives everyone in the room an identical, objective framework to talk about mental health without it feeling loaded, intimidating, or risky. Perhaps most importantly, you'll spend five hours in a room where this conversation happens openly, safely, and entirely without judgment. That's where a culture truly begins to change.

Before we can change a workplace culture, we have to understand the barriers that keep people quiet. This module introduces the core concepts of mental health and mental illness, stripping away the clinical jargon. We look closely at how stigma subtly shows up in everyday workplace interactions, how it drives people to hide their struggles, and what we can do to create a judgment-free environment where seeking support is seen as a strength.
-
What does a psychologically healthy workplace actually look like? In this module, we introduce a practical, visual framework that removes the guesswork from mental health. Participants learn to track changes in well-being along a clear spectrum - learning how to recognize the early, subtle signs of moving from healthy to reacting or injured. This allows individuals to check in with themselves and their peers objectively, long before a crisis develops.
-
Stress is an inevitable part of work, but burnout doesn't have to be. Here, we examine how sustained pressure impacts both the mind and the body. Instead of just talking about self-care conceptually, this is a hands-on session where teams learn and practice the Big 4 Coping Strategies, evidence-informed, micro-tools designed to manage acute stress, calm the nervous system, and build personal resilience in real time.
Please note
For prevention purposes, this course includes content on suicide awareness. Verbal trigger warnings are provided prior to discussing this material to ensure a safe, supportive learning environment for everyone.

Looking For Manager Level Training?
Managers are often the first to notice when something's wrong - and the least equipped to know what to do about it. Every Working Mind programme has a dedicated manager stream that builds on the same foundation as the employee course and adds a leadership-specific module that goes further.
This module moves beyond awareness into action - equipping managers with the tools, the language, and the quiet confidence to respond when someone on their team needs them most. The moments that call for the most from a leader are exactly what it prepares you for.
Organisations that train both employees and managers see the fullest impact - a shared framework across every level of the workplace, built through two focused sessions designed specifically for each group.
